Until Nissan’s R35 GT-R lobbed Down Under, this was the hottest ‘Godzilla’ in town. Not to mention the most collectable. Owner John Kaias had to put in a special order and wait nine months before handing over a whopping $200,000 for his prized asset.

Starting life as a stock GT-R, the Z-tune was stripped and rebuilt as a road-going racer, putting out as much as 470kW from its stroked 2.8-litre, twin turbo engine. Kaias wasted no time testing its awesome performance, clocking a 1.17.2sec lap at Oran Park and out-dragging a GT2 Porsche. The car was sold not long after it featured in Unique Cars, but remained in Melbourne.
