Nissan Exa/NX/Pulsar 1983-2002
Nissan’s Pulsar and its derivatives have dotted Australian carparks for decades and defy attrition more successfully than most rivals. Basic N13 and N14 Pulsars built from 1987-95 are still easy to buy at $3000-4500 and make a good ‘starter’ car. If you can find the extra, spend $5000-7000 on a SSS version.

Among the Pulsars to have gained majorly during recent years are AWD Turbo GTiRs – all low-volume imports and up from $15K in 2018 to around $30,000 now. Looking back to the 1980s you might find an EXA in decent condition or perhaps one of the rare ET Turbos. Just don’t pay too much.
The NX and NXR make good daily drives with a bit of style for under $5000.
