400ci V8

As a model series, Ford's Thunderbird is coming up for a 70th anniversary - the series began way back in 1955.

Though it grew enormously in size over time, the assorted generations for several decades stuck with the 'personal coupe' theme, which implied something luxurious and a bit special.

None are more so than this 1978 model, released as a Jubilee Anniversary Edition, celebrating Ford's 75th anniversary as a manufacturer. That makes it a rare variant in any country, particularly Australia.

Under the distinctive paint you scored a 400ci (6.5lt) V8 matched to a three-speed auto.

It came loaded with every imaginable option, which meant it originally cost nearly double the price of a standard Thunderbird at US$12,000.

The car is reported to be in exceptional shape with just 39,000 miles (63,000km) on the odometer. It's with Pennant Hills Auto in Sydney, priced at $49,990.
