Police-spec K13

For us, the development of the local Charger lines is one of the great manufacturing stories. In a feature we note: "For something that effectively began as a skunkworks project done on the fly, the Charger scored incredible success and retains phenomenal cultural traction among petrolheads. Chrysler Australia Managing Director David Brown is credited with the birth of the Charger line, rightly anticipating the likelihood that the upcoming VH series of land yachts had little youth appeal.

"Some $2 million of a $22 million develop budget was skimmed off for the project, a pittance in car development terms. It was done in great secrecy, at least at first, with even Chrysler USA being kept in the dark until the Charger was down the development trail."

This example is unusual, in that it lays claim to being a rare K13, aka police spec V8. It’s running a 360ci (5.9lt) powerplant with 727 auto and limited-slip diff. Just 109 are said to have been built in this configuration.

The car has covered serious miles, around 342,000km, and is said to have had a mechanical freshen-up approximately 75,000km ago. It has also had a doors-shut respray at some stage. Australian Muscle Cars sales has it in Sydney at $79,000.
