From our online VP summary, by Glenn Torrens: "With 111,770 built, the VP-generation Holden was powered by a more refined version of the 3.8-litre V6 that was placed into later VNs. The 5.0-litre V8 was optional across the range. Independent suspension was standard under Calais and SS and optional on other sedans. Holden’s model range remained Executive, S, Berlina, Calais and SS and base and S versions of the Ute."

However enhanced rapid wagons like this HSV were still pretty much in their infancy and it took a few more years for the concept to really take off.

A 1993 example, it’s in the fifth anniversary HSV livery, which was shared across other models such as ClubSport and Senator. Labelled Galaxie Blue with Panorama Silver lower panels, it was applied to relatively few cars – thought to number 138.

The VP is running the 180kW version of the 5.0lt V8, matched to a four-speed auto. It claims just 64,000km on the odo and is said to be in exceptional shape.

Muscle Car Stables has this one at $60,000.
