Back when this car was sold new, it would have cost over the $100k mark and was seen as a rival for the likes of Jaguar XJ6 and E-class Mercedes-Benz.

Today it is still potentially capable of offering a very good driving experience, with the possibility of being put on club plates.

As our feature on E34 series points out: "Much of the E34 had been developed in conjunction with the larger and heavier 7-Series, so packing that car's 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine into the E34's lighter and more compact frame was bound to produce a version with something special for performance-loving drivers."

In this spec, it's running a late version of the legendary 3.4lt inline six that in various guises had been in service with the company for a couple of decades. Claiming 208 horses in this form, it is matched to a four-speed auto.

These cars came loaded with ABS, LSD and leather interior.

This example is said to have served as an Australian consular car in Saudi Arabia for 16 years.

It's up for auction with Collecting Cars.
