Motorsport legend
If ever a car was calculated to put a grin on the dial of the driver, a MkI twin-cam Escort is definitely it. Though not the most powerful car around, they’re lively and have a giant-killer record in motorsport.
As we note in a feature on the MkI series: "The Escort with proper performance credentials was the Twin Cam which came with a Lotus-prepped 1.6-litre engine, revised gearing and top speed above 160km/h. Twin Cams finished first and third in the 1970 World Cup Rally to Mexico City and remain frontrunners in classic rally events.
"The Escort was light and modern and exciting. Engineering advances included a new all-synchromesh gearbox, MacPherson strut suspension plus rack and pinion steering."
This example is running the expected Lotus 1600cc four-cylinder engine, tied to a four-speed manual.
It’s owner says it has had a comprehensive restoration, in its original colours. It currently runs Rostyle wheels and comes with the steel originals. Located in Sydney, it’s on the market at $95,000.
