In 1986 Nissan took on Holden and Ford with their family sized, all-new Skyline. Styling wasn’t exactly its party piece but what lay under the bonnet was. The three-litre, fuel-injected straight six was a gem. Powerful, economical and happy to sip the new unleaded brew of the day. Holden thought so highly of it they shoved it in their upcoming VL Commodore.

The Skyline was the backbone for the birth of Nissan’s Special Vehicles Division that rolled out two high-performance series of the Skyline GTS. Both were restricted to 200 units and both were developed by Mark Skaife and Jim Richards, the Nissan factory racers back then. Check out the new Zed car.

 This one here is a Skyline GXE and looks smart in its white over grey with the Series 1 GTS wheels adding a sporting touch. Behind the straight six is a four-speed auto and the ad claims it is in excellent order throughout. It’s on the market for $17,500. The details are here.
