Hardtop restomod
The distinctive shape of these early Valiants is pretty hard to miss.
As we note in a feature on the series: "When the R Series Valiant was released it was Mopar-love at first sight for a generation of young rev-heads. How could you not be besotted with the flamboyantly sculptured body, the tyre-burning Slant Six motor, the cool ‘spare-wheel’ cover on the boot lid, the sporty floor-shift gear lever? It seemed light years ahead of the suddenly very ordinary Holdens, Falcons, Zephyrs and Vauxhalls in most suburban driveways, in both looks and performance."
The two-door hardtop versions like this are generally a private import from the USA, usually with a slant six powerplant. However this example is a restomod and now has a 318ci (5.2lt) V8 in the snout with a three-speed auto. The seller says the car started life as a top of the range V200 and has undergone a complete refurbishment.
Located in Melbourne, it’s on the market at $88,000. Tel 0400 418 623.
