Last Aussie coupe

The gen-two Monaro is Australia’s last coupe. It was conceived in secrecy by a group of the General's designers and engineers in their spare time, led by Mike Simcoe. It got the go ahead as a concept. After wowing Sydney’s Motorshow, with buyers waving fists full of cash at dealers and the media pressuring the General to resurrect the Monaro name, Holden gave it the go ahead. The gen-two Monaro lifespan lasted a tad over half a decade and was hughely successful.

Monaro 20 years on

Here is one of the last of the breed, a 2005 CV8 in signature red. The 5.7-litre V8 in this version pumps out 260 kilowatts and is tied to a six-speed manual gearbox, the perfect Monaro combo. It has covered 85,600kms and the mature owner is downsizing his collection. It’s in original, excellent and unmolested condition. If you want a piece of Australian motoring notoriety this one is $65,000. See it here.
