1986 Mitsubishi Cordia - today's tempter
Eighties hatch
When’s the last time you saw a Mitsubishi Cordia? These front-wheel-drive hatchbacks may only made 110kW in stock form, but they quickly spawned a cult following and even an online forum that continues to this day.
While the big Aussie coupe was dead by the early ‘80s, new contenders emerged from Japan. "The Japanese came to the rescue around this time with a smorgasbord of coupes from Toyota, Mazda, Datsun, Honda and Holden, with a rebadged Isuzu," writes Mark Higgins in our Starion buyer’s guide.
Aussie police units found use for the Cordia too, with several Sydney highway patrol units using turbo examples as they awaited delivery of the famed VL Commodore.
The 1986 model listed is described as "immaculate", boasting a five-speed manual and just 124,000km on the odometer. Its paint finish is reportedly excellent and the car will be sold with a NSW roadworthy certificate. Located in Charlestown, the little slice of ‘80s Mitsubishi history could be yours for $19,500.
