HSV SV88 hits $94k – auction watch
First HSV production model
An example of Holden Special Vehicles' first production model, a VL Commodore-based SV88 V8 auto, has reached $94,900 at a Grays online auction, with 11 hours to go.
The 1988 car is number 37 in a production run of 150 and claims to bhe in good shape with 152,171km on the odo.
Pitched as a luxury performance car, the SV88 carried Calais-level interior trim, with bespoke leather and velour for the seats. A phone and mobile fax were options.
In addition to adding its own body kit and colour-coded wheels, HSV tweaked the 5.0lt V8 for a claimed 136kW at 4400rpm and 355Nm at 3200.
When it was new, pricing started at $40,850 or about a 25 per cent premium over the Holden Calais.
The bidding on this car looks like reaching new levels for the model and follows on from the exceptionally strong overall market demand for Australian vehicles.
