Premium front-engine model

Porsche's front-engined 944 series from 1982 struggled to get anything like the market traction of its rear-engined 911 stablemates, even though they were arguably a better car.

The 944 turbo series revelled in having a 2.5lt inline four claiming near 250 horses in this guise, with excellent weight distribution thanks to a rear transaxle. Anyone who's driven these cars with some enthusiasm will tell you they have exceptional balance.

History has been a little more kind to these cars, as enthusiasts have seen their potential with not just the Porsche name, but offering good performance and reliability in a car that's now eligible for classic/club plates.

This 1990 example appears to have a good history and is a five-speed manual in a desirable spec. It's with The Healey Factory in Melbourne at $75,000
