Sixties Brit classic

Introduced as a replacement for the elegant MGA, the 1962-on MGB was emblematic of the 1960s and a big sales success.

Like its predecessors, it offered basic sports car fun for relatively modest money and  – even today – remains relatively affordable.

Though running modest specification, based around an 1800cc four-cylinder engine (there were also V8 variants), it’s a car that’s all too easy to underestimate. On a tight and winding road, they are very capable and surprisingly quick.

There is a wealth of knowledge and parts support for these cars, so keeping one long-term should not be a major challenge.

This example in South Australia claims to have had a restoration at some stage and presents as a turn-key proposition.

It’s an Australian-assembled car with a four-speed manual and overdrive. Price is $39,995. Tel 0499 311 299.
