Top end Benz

If you were rolling around in a Benz of this calibre back in the later 80s, you were making a statement. Among other things, it suggested you were wealthy enough to afford a car which, back then, cost about the the same a decent house in most capital cities.

The 560 SEC carried the big 5.6lt naturally aspirated V8, claiming a healthy enough 275 horses. That was enough to punt the car to a claimed 240km/h. Running a four-speed auto, it came with power everything and a luxurious interior that, despite the coupe body, could seat four adults in comfort.

In a review of this generation S class, we commented: "Built 1979 through to 1991 in most places (with a significant update from 1986), and up to 1994 in South Africa, it’s sometimes described by enthusiasts as the last of the ‘good’ Benzes, in that they were as solid as the proverbial brick outhouse and particularly well-assembled."

See the story here.

This example claims a little over 200,000km, which should not be enough to trouble it if the maintenance has been kept up. It's with John Conroy in Brisbane and claims a full set of log books.

The W126 generation of Benzes is starting to be rediscovered by enthusiasts, and this one priced at $54,990.
