The start of the legend

Looking back at the V8 power wars between (primarily) Holden and Ford Australia in the late sixties, it's  easy to understand people's fascination with the iconic car produced over a short period.

Though often overlooked in favour of a later Phase III, the car that started the GT-HO series, the Phase I, is arguably just as significant. Even if it did have a troubled time in its first outing at the annual Bathurst endurance race.

Muscle Car Warehouse in Sydney has an interesting example on offer. The car has had significant resto work done over time, including a fresh engine, while the original has been preserved and is being sold with the car.

It's believed 662 of the XW series (260 Phase I, 402 Phase II) were built. However the survival rate has been low, as in the early years many owners simply didn't have the foresight to regard it as a future classic.

Though relatively rare, a well set-up one is simple enough to live with while offering a pretty big 'wow' factor.

This example is on the market for $340,000.
