Volkswagen Kombi - today's tempter
Glamping adventures await
VW Kombis have skyrocketed in price, striking a chord with restorers and modifiers. The second-generation or T2 1967-1979 was a quantum leap forward in every way and VW successfully transformed its delivery van into a popular and comfortable mobile home.
This 1974 five-seater, with sliding side windows, had a professional resto in 2021. Tornado Red with a white roof and pearl interior, this beaut-looking example is claimed to be rust free. In its bum is a two-litre engine bolted to a manual gearbox.
Glamping features in the T2 include a full size rock 'n' roller bed and to keep the bubbles and beers chilled, a 50-litre fridge. It also has a dual battery system, fly screens on the sliding door, and a few modern touches such as USB ports and GPS system.
Located near Noosa in Qld, it's on the market for $70,000.
