It can take a bit of patience to get your head around the assorted Subaru WRX STi specials that have been released over the years. However it's fair to say they have all been, to varying degrees, potential collectibles.
Some like this R version from 2000 are getting right up there in the desirability stakes. While it would have cost a bomb when it was new, that faith in the nameplate has been justified by current values.
We've been seeing a strong swing towards Japanese collectibles over recent years, and sometimes it's surprising just how recent some of the more desirable models are.
This example has a few things in its favour: Popular performance series, premium variant, clear motorsport connection and it's in the 'right' corporate colour scheme.
Claiming to be one of just 578 examples produced, this car featured on the cover of our Modern Classics special back in 2019.
It's up for auction at Collecting Cars, with bidding sitting at $85,000 with three days to go.
