If you were looking for the ultimate in unique vehicles, with an off-road bent, we’ve found the solution. Called a Ripsaw, it’s one of six four-seaters ever made and is being auctioned right now at Hemmings in the USA.

And before you ask: no, it isn’t fitted with guns.

It does however have some creature comforts in the cockpit, which is mounted on air suspension. The crew faces a full Garmin touch-screen display, while all four seats are trimmed in leather. The front Recaros are also heated and cooled.

Powering the monster is a 6.6lt V8 diesel claiming 597kW (800hp) of power and a nice round 2000Nm of torque. That lot is being handled by a five-speed Allison ‘extreme duty’ tranmission.

The driveline finishes in rubber-shod tracks, driven by self-lubricating polyethylene sprockets. Wilwood supplies the braking

Top speed? Near enough to 100km/h. So far it’s travelled just 160km.

Among the long list of features is a suite of gadgets designed to help you use it at night, including an infra-red light bar and FLIR camera. Oh, and the Garmin screens have filters that are compatible with night vision goggles.

Built by Howe & Howe (which has since been bought by Textron Systems), the Ripsaw EV3-F4 originally cost in the region of Au$690,000. At the time of writing, the online bidding was at Au$180,000 with 10 days to go.
