'Last of the V8s' and 'Chicken Coupe 2.0' set off bidding wars

Two amazing Ford finds are pulling huge numbers at a current Grays auction.

Easily the most staggering turn of events is that a 1982 XE Fairmont ESP V8 is pulling incredible numbers: bidding has hit $315,000, with four days to go!

That is already a record-breaking price for the model.

So why all the fuss? First, it's unused, with a mere 60km showing on the odo. Secondly it was badged as the last V8 to leave the Ford Australia factory - remember this was a time when the local firm was turning its back on bent eights.

While it was predictable this car would have got plenty of collector interest, the levels reached so far are incredible. You can see the lot here.

The second is what's become colloquially known as 'Chicken Coupe 2.0', in other words a 1973 XA GT hardtop in a one-off colour (Port Wine) that was pulled out of a Queensland shed last month after sitting for several decades.

The story goes that it was a special order that was rejected at the last minute. Its current owner then bought it off the showroom floor, at a reduced price! The GT was used as a company vehicle for some years, before being packed away in a shed.

This one is special, as it's in RPO83 trim, and bidding has already hit $250,000, also with four days to go. You can see the lot here
