Home-grown Ford XA hardtop up for auction
Exceptional build hits the market
An award-winning 1972 XA hardtop is coming on the market tonight, through Grays.
Owner Glenn Willmott says he and father-in-law Graham put the car together themselves as part of a two-year project. "He ran around and got the parts we needed while I was away working,"explained Glenn, "Then we'd get together and work on the car."
The driveline for the Calypso Green beauty is a desirable set-up: 351 4V Cleveland with FMX auto and nine-inch diff.
It seems the work must have been top-notch, as the car won Best GT at a recent All-Ford show at Willowbank in Queensland.
"Graham rang to tell me while I was driving the car home," said Glenn, "And I didn't believe him at first!" Convinced that Dad-in-law was pulling his chain, Glenn insisted on hearing the news confirmed by a third party.
Hardtops have been in big demand in recent years, with prices heading well into six figures. This example is up for sale as part of a bigger auction from tonight, April 22, via Grays.
