Sold: A$350,130
RM Sothebys

THE DTM or German Touring Car Championship was the hottest series on the planet with factory teams from Mercedes, BMW and Audi dominating. Merc’s weapon was based on the 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, of which just 500 were made to meet homologation.

Powered by a 170kW 2.5lt 16-valve inline-four engine by Cosworth, it was bolted to a five-speed Getrag manual gearbox. This is number 146 that went to Japan before ending up in the States.

1955 Jaguar D-Type

Sold: A$7.81M
RM Sothebys

NOT ONLY is it a super rare D-Type with an extensive competition pedigree, this one has a list of famous names entwined in its history. It has many original components, including bodywork and matching-numbers engine and cylinder head and factory-correct Red with Red interior. It was purchased new from Bernie Ecclestone for £3500 by British racer Peter Blond with other celebrity owners being racer Jean Bloxham and Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant.

1972 Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1

Sold: $233,000
Slattery Auctions

THE TORANA XU-1 launched a young Peter Brock to superstardom and nine Bathurst classic wins, the first in 1972, driving solo in tricky conditions in the HDT LJ XU-1. This example is finished in Patina Gold and shows an incredibly low 44,972kms on the clock. It has been resprayed but the interior is said to be original.

1975 Datsun 260Z

Sold: $116,000
Slattery Auction

HARNESSING THE APPEAL of the 240Z Datsun added a bigger engine and two more seats into the 260Z 2+2. This example has had a complete ground up resto in and presents as good as when new. Bolted to the five speed manual and providing the power to the rear wheels is a 2.6 litre engine. A revelation when launched, these early zed cars are highly prized and skyrocketing in value.
