Hero car has shown extraordinary growth

A little while back, the thought of an HSV GTSR W1 selling for over the half-mil mark might have been far-fetched, particularly given they were selling new in 2017 for more like $170,000!

However even at launch demand for the 300 examples far outstripped supply and there was talk back then of them being sold on for a 20-30 per cent premium. 

One of the last of the big local muscle cars, the W1 boasted 475kW from its supercharged LS9 powerplant. 

By 2018 we saw a pristine example sell for $250,000.

We've seen some huge numbers bandied about at a recent auction and don't see them as a reliable indicator of what the market is doing. However there is little doubt GTSR W1 prices have climbed north in a big way since 2018.

This W1 sedan has actually been driven, while many were put under wraps, and claims a little shy of 29,000km. It's being handled by Australian Muscle Cars Sales and is priced at $605,000.
