Early Honda was a pet project for the boss
We seem to get one of these pop up once every six months or so, which is incredible given the tiny mumbers that exist in this country – or anywhere else.
The Coupe 9 was a favourite of company founder Soichiro Honda, who took a direct interest in the engineering and styling. In fact, it's said the car's nose is a tribute to one of his personal favourites, a Pontiac Firebird.
Its fan-cooled 1300 inline four engine showed some direct links to the company's motorcycle roots, with features such as a bank of four CV carburettors. Typically they had a four-speed manual transmission.
A few versions of this platform were built over time, including the Coupe 7, Coupe 9, Coupe 9S and the injected 1400cc 145.
We previously covered a reader resto on a 9S, which you can see here. And you can see the video here.
This example is located near Mackay in Queensland and is on the market for $20,000.
