If you were ordering a VK HDT Calais Director back back in 1985, you clearly had a bit of cash floating around and wanted something special – hand-built. At the time, the Brock cars had earned a reputation for being well-developed while offering a fair degree of customisation.

The history of HDT and the special vehicles it produced with Peter Brock as its figurehead is well-recorded. 

It seems that who-ever first ordered this car from Brock and crew ticked a lot of boxes on the order sheet. Over the years, it has been restored and the owners seem to have taken care to keep track of its history.

The ad description reads, in part: "This HDT VK Calais Director #3412 was ordered with the Group 3 body kit and factory sunroof, and originally delivered and sold new by West City Holden of Blacktown NSW in May of 1986. The engine and transmission have been recently refreshed and full service to diff, brakes and suspension.

"Now becoming thin on the ground this stunning Brock Director is unmodified and unmolested with original running gear including the Group A bred big valve heads, HDT extractors and sports exhaust system, factory chrome dress up kit, Bilstein shocks and revised spring rates and sway bars. Subsequent upgrades include as-new restored 16 x 7 Momo Stars.

"Also optioned with the 90lt fuel tank, this car also has the rare height adjusting front seats, on both passenger and driver side, along with the factory working electronic dash, air conditioning, power steering, power windows, central locking, power mirrors and power aerial."

Much of that might seem perfectly normal these days, but 35 years ago it was an impressive options list.
