Very original, numbers-correct and low-km XD Falcon
The XD Ford Falcon arrived in 1979 and represented a stylistic departure from the preceding ‘coke-bottle’ cars with smooth panels and sharp edges – and enough modernity to win it a local national design award.
The XD was a sharp-seller for Ford, peaking at 5000 units a month. But while the exterior was all-new, much of the underpinnings were carried over from the XC Falcon.
This 1980 XD Falcon comes to market fitted with the basic and numbers-correct 3.3lt six and three-speed auto combo.
Its known history dates back to birth, first owned by a Ford Geelong employee who purchased the car directly through the factory in August 1980. An accompanying Ford verification letter stipulates that this XD sedan is one of four finished in this spec, colour and trim combo.
Described as rust free and wearing mostly original paint and trim, the car presents very well throughout with minor wear on the driver’s seat and the odd minor paint blemish consistent with the age of the vehicle.
Reportedly having travelled a low 109,000kms in its life, the XD Falcon retains its original windscreen, AM radio and wheels; and will come with a number of spares including NOS seat trim material as well as the original keys and books.
The Falcon appears to be an honest and much-loved original example of the breed and, if it’s as good as it looks, will surely be deserving of preserving well into the future.
The XF Falcon is based in the ACT and is listed for $22,500.
