GT-mockup, 351 Cleveland, four-speed, new shocks, just serviced

As an all-Aussie invention, the ute in almost all forms is a hugely popular classic amongst local enthusiasts, but we think there’s something special in particular about the Falcon X-series.

The load bed was based off the wagon, but its wheelbase was extended to the full 2946mm of the Fairlane, allowing for plenty of cabin space and avoiding the awkward overhangs of its US-based cousin, the Ranchero.

Coupled with the two-door coupes stylish roofline and longer coupe doors, the proportions came together to create one of the most handsome utilities around.

The XB of ’74 gained range updates including front disc brakes and inertia-reel seatbelts, plus a healthy dose of Mustang-influenced styling.

This 1976 XB ute looks like an older build, having been rather extensively turned into a GT-ute mockup.

It presents today with a 351 Cleveland (just painted with new rear main seal) from a Ford F-100, matched to a four-speed manual and Borg Warner differential.

Dual 2.5" exhausts and a new Holley 600 four-barrel carburettor adorn the powerplant while new shocks and coils and near-new rear shocks suspend the silver/black body.

Inside is a custom diamond stitch black interior with GS instruments and a contemporary stereo system.

The vehicle is described to be in good condition throughout with only minor paint blemishes and is a member of the Falcon GT Club of Canberra.

Based in the ACT, the ute is listed for $43,000.
