Immaculate 850 T5-R, recently undergone $16,000 light restoration: new paint, mechanical refresh and many new parts

While Volvo may not be known as much of a motorsports brand today, it was a different story back in the 90s with their heavy British Touring Car participation.

By 1995, Volvo’s road car portfolio already had the sporty T-5 in its arsenal, but the brand sought to take their sporty image further.

The limited edition T-5R arrived in 1995, and was co-developed by Porsche. Turning the wick up from the standard T-5 was achieved with a new ECU and an extra 1.5psi of boost, which ultimately yielded a 13kW power bump.

Transmission options included either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual.

6,964 Volvo 850 T-5Rs were produced from August 1994 to July 1995 in both sedan and wagon bodies. Approximately half of them were finished in Cream Yellow, 28 of which were delivered to Australia.

This example here is one of those 28 Australian-delivered yellow T-5Rs, desirably specified with the five-speed manual transmission.

The seller states that the previous owner kept the car to a very high standard, undertaking a costly respray and replacing many worn out items.

The current owner and seller states that they have elevated the car again, recently undergoing approximately $16,000 of works which include: the replacement of any and all cracked, faded or worn items, full mechanical refresh and major service, new radiator and cooling system overhaul and a part interior restoration utilising original materials.

The car is as-factory delivered except for the upgraded 850R brakes, and a sway bar. The sale includes various spares, period documentation and comprehensive service history.

The car is currently housed as part of a collection, however the seller indicates he is eyeing another project. This 850 T-5R may be priced towards the higher end of the market, however we don’t imagine you’ll find one in much better condition.

Certainly one for the passionate Volvo collector.
