1990 HSV Clubsport VN – Today’s Tempter

Build number #001 of 410, five-speed manual, fair condition

While HSV as we know it has been resigned to pages of history, becoming GMSV and signalling a new era for exclusively fettling and engineering imported American cars.

The turn of the 90s was a very different time however, and HSV was just coming into its own, growing in size as well as rapidly expanding its model portfolio.

One of the new offerings for the VN range (first introduced in 1988), was the Clubsport which would go on to become one of HSV’s celebrated and significant nameplates.

The name was the brainchild of John Harvey, who sought to put the "V8 performance car back in the hands of Mr. Joe Average".

410 VN Clubsports were produced between June 1990 and August 1991, specified with the 180kW 5.0lt V8 coupled to either a five-speed manual or four-speed auto.

This example seems to check a lot of boxes as build no.001 of the 410 Clubsports, and with the desirable manual gearbox.

It is a used example however, with 275,000kms on the odometer and described by the seller as in "fair condition".

Expect the usual bumps and bruises from a life-lived, and perhaps some wear and tear to the interior’s frequent touchpoints. Unfortunately there aren’t any interior or detail photos to get a greater gauge of the car.

The seller does state that Peter Brock’s signature adorns the glovebox, and has recently had a new clutch fitted.

The Clubsport may be of interest to a collector for its first-build status and manual specification.

The VN Clubby is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $25,000 (or best offer).
