Big US V8 coupe is a well-kept cruiser for the summer

For muscle car fans that measure their cars in cubic inches and square footage of sheet-metal, it’s increasingly hard to stomach the rising prices for our locally-made V8s.

But if you’re open to overseas offerings, there is a plentiful array of American cars already on our local shores which may arguably offer a more value-filled proposition.

Take the fourth-generation Chevrolet Impala for instance.

The range was completely redesigned in 1965, and yielded an impressive sales record for Chevrolet in the US – posting 1 million annual sales in that first year.

The pillarless coupe would be our pick of the bunch, which sat atop an all-new perimeter frame and full-coil suspension.

By 1967’s annual facelift, the car’s body had taken on a much more curvaceous appearance, with distinct coke-bottle swage lines and a stylish fastback roof on the desirable sports coupe.

Engine options ranged from a 250ci ‘turbo thrift’ inline-six, right up to the big 427ci V8. Most V8 cars are commonly found with the standard 283ci Turbo-Fire or the optional 327ci V8.

This 1967 sport coupe looks like a fantastic example of its kind: presenting well in its original metallic blue paintwork and with nice chrome throughout.

Its original 327ci V8 is backed by a two-speed PowerGlide auto, and has factory power steering and retrofitted power disc brakes.

The interior is described as being in excellent original condition with no rips or tears. The car also bears functioning and factory air-conditioning.

Lowered suspension and polished aftermarket wheels finish off the package.

The big blue Impala is based in Queensland and is listed for $48,500.
