Modern Aussie workhorse that you can enjoy, preserve or even use every day

The XR6 badge first appeared back on the EB Falcon of 1991, intended to add a bit of flavour to the middle of the range’s portfolio. When the BA generation came along, bringing forced induction with it; what was previously a good model, became one of Ford’s all-time greats.

Ford’s Barra 4.0lt 24-valve inline-six was its centrepiece and remains one of Ford Australia’s greatest hits, made even better with the modest 0.4 bar Garrett turbocharger.

When you see BA-generation Falcons these days, they’re usually looking a little worse for wear – and frequently have been modified to various extents given their appetite for boost and power.

As such, they’re not on the collector radar yet, and will only grow more sought-after in the future as less and less survive the seemingly significant rate of attrition.

This late-production 2006 XR6 turbo ute looks like one that’s worth preserving for the future.

Finished in Toxic Green and specified with the six-speed automatic.

According to the sellers, it’s a two-owner car with perfect service history from new. It’s also highly optioned with hard lid, tubliner, sports bar, partial leather trim and presents well overall.

From the photos, the car looks to be in good nick and clean throughout, down to the door jambs and engine bay.

The interior shows some signs of use, with some minor creasing to the driver’s seat and signs of wear to the carpet and steering wheel – to be expected given its odometer reading of 265,823kms.

Overall, it’s an affordable locally-made ute that you can use and enjoy, whilst also taking care of for the future.

You can find the XR6T ute in New South Wales, and listed for $14,990.
