Aus-delivered and rare turbocharged Saab 900 Aero: well-maintained with full history

The Saab 900 overall, was a globally lauded model for the Swedish brand thank to its ingenious (if not exactly conventional) engineering, design and driving experience.

The turbo models in particular typified the 80s era of burgeoning turbocharged road cars.

The Saab 900 Aero was a high-spec car released globally in 1984.

It took the standard 900 turbo’s 119kW 16-valve turbo motor and turned up the wick just so.

With the higher output engine, the 900 Aero also gained the distinctive body kid and wheels. The 900 Aero was a limited production vehicle with colours varying on market and year produced.

Globally they are actually quite rare, and are sought-after by collectors – especially high-spec vehicles commonly marketed to Australia where American consumers frequently missed out on luxuries such as leather interior, air-conditioning and other niceties.

This 1988 Saab 900 Aero is an Australian-delivered vehicle, coming with all the extras.

History dates back to July 7 1988, where the 900 Aero was sold by SAAB Sporting Cars of Oakleigh (in Victoria) and is accompanied by its original SAAB leather wallet, handbook, warranty book and service book showing 12 services within the first 5 years; during which it racked up 82,746kms.

More recently, invoice history shows great levels of maintenance carried out over the past six years. The turbo was reconditioned in 2015 at 179,771kms, while a gearbox rebuild was performed in 2016 at 188,160kms.

In exceedingly 80s fashion, the Saab Aero is complimented by reconditioned SAAB Carlsson tri-spoke wheels; whilst the tan leather interior is backed by a SAAB-Momo four-spoke steering wheel, electric sunroof and Perspex wind deflector.

In ready-to-run condition, this SAAB 900 Aero would surely appeal to the discerning Swedish collector, or any fans of the more obscure 80s offerings.

The car is based in Victoria and is listed for $26,000.
