1979 Chrysler CM Valiant Regal – Today’s Tempter

265, auto, great original condition throughout: no rust or accident damage

Chrysler’s CM Valiant was historically underrated against its peers as an ill-timed model which buyers thought may have arrived a few years too late. Indeed, at the time, Chrysler was diverting much of the Valiant’s development funds into the very successful Sigma.

With a small budget, the new CM Valiant was distinguished by the usual new grille and brightwork, along with four quartz-halogen headlamps, and wider sports wheels and radial tyres.

Despite its lacklustre performance on the sales charts in its day, it remains a handsome and capable Aussie family cruiser. The 265ci (4.3lt) Hemi-six was the best six in its day, yielding impressive power delivery and durability with Chrysler’s Electronic Lean Burn’ technology. Newly-improved suspension which appeared late in the outgoing CL Valiant’s life was similarly carried over to the new CM.

This 1979 Valiant Regal looks like a great example of the breed, fitted with the 265 inline-six backed by a floor-shift automatic.

The seller describes the body as original and very good, whilst the interior is also original and described as perfect.

According to the seller, the car has never had any rust, or accident damage.

From the photos, the car looks to be in good condition throughout and may offer some great value against a comparable HZ Holden or XD Falcon for anyone after a locally-made sedan.

This CM Valiant is based in Victoria and is listed for $20,000.
