Cheap modern HSV: LS1, auto, full history

The WH-generation of HSV’s luxurious full-size Grange arrived midway through 1999 and initially could be optioned with either the supercharged cast-iron 3.8lt V6 or the 5.7lt LS1 V8.

Both engines were coupled the four-speed auto as standard; and the six-cylinder option was later dropped late in the year 2000.

Based on the long-wheelbase Statesman, HSV’s Grange gained a number of upgrades including HSV’s ‘Prestige tune’ with bespoke Monroe Sensatrac shocks, front and rear anti-roll bars, uprated brakes, and more.

A WH Series II update was introduced late in 2001, with new seats, wood/leather steering wheel, even bigger brakes, ten-disc CD changer and rear parking sensors.

Being a younger HSV model, they haven’t quite captured the nostalgia commanded by older models. They’re readily available for relatively little outlay; and offer a locally made and comfortable yet muscular daily driver.

This 2001 HSV Grange looks to be one of the last Series 1 vehicles before the Series II update was introduced; said to be build #555.

It’s specified with the 255kW LS1 in factory Silver paint over light grey leather interior.

The car comes with log books with full history to date, and is said to have been meticulously maintained and always serviced.

It has covered 248,000kms in its 19 years of life – which is reasonable for the age, equating to a bout 13,000kms per year.

The Grange looks to be well-kept throughout thought we do observe some slight gutter rash  on the wheels.

Otherwise, it looks to be a tidy late-model V8 HSV that’s fairly cheap to step in to, and a capable fuss-free daily driver.

This HSV Grange is based in New South Wales and is listed for $9,990.
