Affordable V8 Holden with plenty of luxury to match

When the WB Statesman bowed out from the scene in 1984, it left a full-size hole in their portfolio and allowed Ford to dominate the large luxury market – until the new VQ arrived in 1990.

The VQ Statesman and Caprice was more than a stretched and widened VN: with Australia’s first locally-made independent rear suspension system, a 5.0lt V8 and four-speed auto as standard, and every possible luxury Holden could chuck at it.

While the new VQ’s body was actually smaller than the outgoing WB – interior space actually improved markedly, particularly in regards to leg and knee-room.

It was Holden’s return to large luxury form, although they have yet to drum up any significant collector interest. If you’re after a large comfy V8 cruiser, the VQ Caprice might be one to consider.

This one comes to market from its third owner in life: the first was a doctor, after which it was owned by a mechanic – before the current owner and seller.

The Caprice has covered 224,xxxkms from new and is said to be in excellent condition throughout. The 5.0lt V8 is described as strong with the rest of the driveline performing flawlessly. The Caprice has recently been serviced and all electrical are said to be fully functioning.

The Caprice looks honest and well-kept outside and in, with only some minor creasing to the leather of the driver’s seat. The VQ will come with original wheels as well as a set of SV wheels.

Based om Victoria, the luxurious Caprice is listed for $18,500.
