Ex-SA police car: Original engine and gearbox, rust and damage-free body

Under the bonnet, buyers could opt for one of two 202ci six-cylinder black motors (carburetted or EFI), or two V8 options. Gearboxes could be optioned in either four and five-speed manuals, or as a three-speed auto.

This 1985 VK SL Commodore is fitted with its original and numbers-correct 4.9lt V8, trimatic auto and Salisbury differential.

The VK is an ex-South Australian police car fitted with the BT1 police pack and finished in its original colour of Police Blue.

The sellers claim that the VK earned its living on the force for between six and 12 months, with its original log books showing the SA police as the original owner, and a genuine odometer reading of 208,904kms.

Its body is said to be damage and rust free, and has been given a closed-door respray in the original colour; but the factory paint can be observed in the engine, boot and doorjambs.

Ex-police cars are hugely desirable to many, and offer a unique piece of collectability and provenance. This one however, will need a bit of recommissioning, according to the sellers.

They point out that the car runs and drives, but as it has come out of several years in storage; will need attention in regards to the brakes, air-conditioning and a power steering leak.

It’s all there, however, and will surely appeal to some.

The Ex-Pol VK is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $29,500.
