Genuine GS wagon with original 4.9lt V8 and four-speed manual

Ford’s XC Falcon was the final evolution of the beloved all-Aussie XA-generation, which first landed in showrooms in 1972.

The last of the series, before the radical new XD would make its debut in 1979, and afforded buyers more power, torque, refined suspension and greater visibility.

New ADR emissions regulations caused many to fear a decrease in performance, but it was mainly the six-cylinders which were affected; gaining new crossflow heads, bigger valves, revised cam timing and more; and actually yielded gains in power output.

Visually, the XC lost much of the ‘coke-bottle’ curves (a notorious nightmare for panel beaters), which hallmarked earlier XA and XB series, with a more slab-sided appearance and a more distinguished swage line running through the rear haunches. A softer bonnet line and chunkier bumpers added a dash of modernity too for the time.

The XC Falcon wagon on sale here caught our eye as a desirable and versatile weekend classic cruiser.

It’s said to be a genuine GS-pack car (also optioned with centre console, rear air deflector and bumper overriders), with its original and numbers-correct 4.9lt V8 and four-speed manual: a very desirable combo in its own right.

The body was resprayed in 2017, with two-pack paint in the original Sweet Cream colour. Inside, the interior is described as "all original" except for a new set of carpets. The under-dash air-conditioning was dealer-fitted and works well with a new compressor recently fitted.

The car has been lowered however, with front coilover suspension fitted – so it may not be 100% original. But really, with a sweet rig like this, who could complain?

The XC wagon is based in New South Wales and is listed for $47,990.
