Very presentable XB 500: 4.1lt inline-six, column-shift manual, very original

Ford’s all-Australian XA Falcon was a breakout car for the local arm of the Blue Oval, but the updated XB moved the goalposts again.

The revised and refined XB arrived in 1973, and when production ended three years later, 220,765 vehicles had been produced – 70,000 more than the XA.

Visually, the XB took on more design influence from the US Mustang, with a power bulge massaged into the bonnet, and a more pronounced overhang up front.

Under the skin, the XB gained front disc brakes, with Futura and Fairmont models treated to power assistance. Engine options comprised of the 3.2lt and 4.1lt inline-six, as well as the 4.9 and 5.7lt V8s; while transmission options were varied over from the XA and included a three-speed column-shift manual, four-on-the-floor, or a Cruise-O-Matic auto on the column or as a T-Bar.

This XB Falcon 500 is fitted with the 4.1lt six-cylinder and the column-shift manual. The car is described to be in very original condition, wearing its factory Blaze Yellow colour along with the original vinyl roof and wheels. The factory chamois interior presents very well with working radio too.

The car is said to have covered an original 153,000kms and is accompanied by its original log books.

There are some aftermarket speakers in the door and a retro-fitted head unit, however overall, the car looks like a well-kept and honest old cruiser.

The XB 500 is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $27,990.
