Former HDT company car, reportedly assigned to John Harvey

Holden’s VK coincided with the arguable height of HDT’s activities; churning out various special sporty models – with Peter Brock co-sign – such as the SS, SS Group Three, and then the now-highly desirable VK Group A.

For the luxury-inclined customers, there was also the Director: built to order, highly customisable and based on the range-topping Calais.

The options list was expansive to say the least, offering body kits, T5G five-speed gearboxes, sunroofs, Scheel seats, suspension, wheels and more!

This HDT-built VK Calais certainly looks like the part with Momo star wheels and VK Director body kit.

However, it’s not listed as a ‘Director’ – and could almost be treated as something else entirely.

You see, this isn’t a standard customer car – but instead a former HDT company car, with HDT documentation indicating that the car was assigned to John Harvey himself.

The car is described as "matching numbers" and looks to be in great preserved condition throughout.

It has covered 147,000kms since new, with the car receiving a "fresh 308" in "factory specs" as well as a rebuilt transmission less than 100km ago. The seller states that it was also fitted new with a Polarizer, which isn’t something we’ve observed on a VK before, but entirely possible.

The car comes with an owner’s book, build certificate and HDT documentation.

Not much more detail is included in the listing, however it looks to be an incredibly rare opportunity to purchase a piece of HDT history.

The car is based in Victoria and is listed for $69,000.
