Need an affordable V8 daily driver? VZ SS, auto, Impulse Blue

The VZ arrived midway through 2004, and while it was only a minor facelift of the preceding VY, the big news was the arrival of the new 3.6lt Alloytec V6s.

Much of the model range was carried over, except for the new SV6 replacing the S badge.

VZ sales didn’t peak quite as high as the VY as smaller cars were increasingly taking up market share; fuel prices were increasing, as well as the fact that Holden’s billion-dollar baby – the VE – was also on the horizon.

The range-topping SS on sale here would’ve set the original owner back over $50,000 when it rolled off the showroom.

Specified in eye-catching Impulse Blue over blue interior, the 5.7lt LS1 is matched with the four-speed auto.

The VZ SS looks to be in good condition in the attached photos, with minor creasing to the driver’s side seat bolster.

It looks to be in largely original condition apart from the obvious Simmons FR-style wheels, lowered suspension and red painted engine covers.

The VZ, as the last of the penultimate Commodore generations, may hold some collectible merit in the future, but today might be best suited for someone after an affordable V8 daily driver or a fuss-free modern weekend cruiser to enjoy and care for well into the future.

The VZ SS is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $12,999.
