1995 Ford Falcon EF Futura – Today’s Tempter
Cheap club plate car in certain states: one family owned, 69,000kms from new
We were surprised to realise that the humble EF Falcon is now amazingly old enough to wear a set of Club Plates in states like Victoria where eligibility is 25 years of age.
Despite their age, EA-EL Falcons haven’t quite captured the magic that their XM and XW elders did when they were the same age.
Certain models are finding their feat, namely EBs and various sporty XR6s; but many models of this era of Ford remain cheap and cheerful.
The EF in particular is regarded as one of the most significant evolutions within the E-series of Falcons; with virtually all new panels (except for the doors), a new crankshaft, and a healthy step up in power with the efficient 4.0lt six-cylinder yielding 157kW – not far off the 5.0lt V8’s 165kW.
This EF Falcon comes to market in Futura spec, with its 4.0lt six-cylinder backed by the four-speed automatic gearbox.
It comes from single-family ownership, and has covered a rather incredible 69,000kms in its life, presenting well as a time-warp example of what’s usually a well-used car.
The EF looks near-new with a great exterior in photos, and seemingly original down to the factory stereo. We see some very minute rippling of the material on the arm rest, and on the fabric of the driver’s seat back.
But the EF, otherwise, looks like it’s stepped straight out of 1995 – the original ‘Towards 2000" NSW plates are a quaint touch.
If anyone is after a cheap club plate car (state depending), this could be an affordable runabout worth preserving.
The EF Falcon is based in New South Wales and is listed for $4,999.
