Stately Rolls-Royce coming from long-term no-expense ownership: serious value

The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit is an older Rolls built at the original and historic Crewe factory; and was the first of a new generation of models from which it birthed the Bentley Eight, Mulsanne, Flying Spur, Silver Spur and more.

The Silver Spirit was introduced in 1980, and enjoyed a near 20-year long production cycle until 1999, and may be considered one of the last significant Rolls-Royce vehicles prior to its sale and licencing deal between Volkswagen and BMW, established in 1998.

When introduced, the Silver Spirit was a virtual successor to the Silver Shadow (1965-1980), utilising the same 6.75lt V8 and GM-sourced Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed.

This 1987 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit Series 1 on the market today comes from exacting 17-year ownership of an elderly gentleman who has driven the car sparingly "to church on Sunday".

The car has covered 74,000kms from new and has been maintained seemingly to no-expense by its owner.

Major works include a full interior retrim in 2007, utilising "the highest grade leather available", according to the listing.

A full engine rebuild was conducted on the fuel-injected 6.75lt V8 in 2014, at 72,000kms.

Detailed history has been kept over the years, with over $40,000 in receipts said to be seen in the engine rebuild and retrim alone.

Rolls-Royces aren’t attractive to most people on the secondhand market, with many simply fearing a high-maintenance reputation. But the nature of the people who bought these expensive luxo-barges when new, saw many of them live a very pampered and sympathetic life.

This particular car looks incredibly well-kept in the photos, and has seemingly been maintained to a very high standard. If nothing else, it presents as a seriously luxurious and value-filled Sunday cruiser for a listed $33,000 (with a roadworthy).

The car is being sold as its elderly owner has unfortunately had his licence withdrawn.

The Rolls-Royce is based in Victoria and you can check out the full listing here!
