The first Torana: Top-spec SL trim, unrestored, factory option front discs

Much like our homegrown Commodore’s original Opel roots, the Torana lineage came courtesy of the HA Vauxhall Viva of 1964.

By 1967, the updated HB had arrived; and was launched under the Holden brand as the ‘Torana’, kicking off a lineage that would cement itself a one of Australia’s favourites.

It reflected the industry trends at the time, which saw the emergence of the ‘two-car’ household, with a rapid uptake of smaller and more economical vehicles.

The familiar front-engine, rear-drive layout of the Torana lent itself more palatable to many over the popular Volkswagen Beetles and MkII Minis.

The model lineup consisted of the base car, the S and the SL; with a four-speed manual and drum brakes front and rear as standard.

Front power disc brakes were optional, as was a two-speed automatic gearbox.

This 1969 HB Torana comes to market in SL trim with the optional automatic transmission and front disc brakes.

The car is in completely unrestored condition, wearing its original burgundy paint, chrome and buckskin interior.

The sellers point out that there is some rust present in the lower front guards and lower quarter behind wheels. The paint is also thin in a few places with some touch ups, and the driver's seat does show some tears.

The car is said to be in good mechanical condition, although may need a once over to reach roadworthy condition.

It’s an interesting little car with a rightful place in local Holden history.

The car is based in Victoria and is listed for $14,800.
