1997 Ford Falcon EL GT – Today’s Tempter

When our brothers at Motor Magazine tested the EL Falcon GT in 1997, they called it "the best handling and road holding Falcon ever built, easily the most convincing GT to wear a Ford badge and, arguably, the finest live axle car in the world today".

A 30^th anniversary nod to the original XR GT of 1967; the EL GT was more refined and offered a significant evolution of the preceding EB GT which revived the storied badge in 1992.

By this stage, buyer tendencies had shied away from all-out white-knuckle muscle cars and had moved to more balanced and holistic V8-tourers. The EL GT nailed the brief better than any, with its Tickford-developed 5.0lt peaking at 200kW with a bucket load of mid-range torque in between.

Despite offering a sublime drive, and glowing praise when new; the reborn EB and EL-era GTs haven’t quite yet popped off on the collector radar.

Though with enough time, we’re sure that will change.

This Heritage Green EL GT is number 15 of 250 produced and appears to come from long-term ownership, serviced by the same mechanic for the past 17 years.

The seller describes it to be in very good condition, and always garaged.

This one comes with the five-speed manual, and appears to be in good nick throughout. Judging from the photos, the only noticeable and significant wear we can see is some wear to the driver’s floor mat.

The EL GT’s odometer is pegged at 132,000kms according to the listing, with the seller claiming that the car just doesn’t get driven as much as they’d like.

The car is based in Queensland and is listed for $42,000.
