Mid-60s American Falcon: 200ci-six, auto; exceedingly original

Early Aussie Falcons existed in parallel to their distinctly American siblings; but while we were wrapt with the breakout XR Falcon, the US by 1966 was launching the third-generation of their own Falcon.

The American Falcon came as a sedan, coupe and wagon; with either a 170ci or 200ci six, or the small-block 289 V8.

In coupe form; it was based on the US Fairlane; the wheelbase was shortened while the body incrementally grew in size. The long bonnet and short deck rear were reminiscent of the hugely popular Mustang.

If you’ve always dreamed of a two-door early Falcon; it truly looks like hardtop version of our own XR. If Ford had imported it back in the day – it would have been the logical successor to the early XP Hardtops.

This 1966 Falcon Coupe presents in comfort-oriented Futura specification; with the bigger of the two sixes – the 200ci, coupled to a column-shift auto.

The listing indicates that the odometer has turned a mere 24,510 miles; and the sellers describe the car as 100% original with plastic still on the seats. The body looks incredibly well preserved, but the interior shows some fading from age.

It comes with log books, history and is said to be reliable and fully functioning.

If its condition is as good as described, it looks like good buying at $29,990.

Imagine how much a locally-made XR would set you back in this condition.

You can find this American Falcon Coupe in New South Wales.
