Build #786, factory auto, 156,500kms and unmodified: may be something to hold for the future

The VR-generation represented a significant step in maturity for HSV; with new levels of design across the range thanks to Ian Callum’s penmanship.

The 5.0lts across the range were bumped up to 185kW while the GTS model welcomed back the big bored-out 5.7lt, good for 215kW.

The Senator represented the popular medium-sized luxury option and came with either the 185kW 5.0lt or could be optioned with the bigger 5.7lt.

Most were delivered with four-speed autos, though you could option a five-speed manual; with the vehicles complimented by uprated brakes, LSD and some creature comforts; such as Statesman back seats, cruise and climate, and a four-speaker sound system.

They haven’t quite landed on the collector radar yet, but this era of HSV is surely one to watch in the future as these cars are only growing more scarce.

This 1994 example is build #786, and is specified with the 185kW 5.0lt V8 and factory four-speed auto.

It shows signs of use but is overall in good condition and looks to be very original and unmodified.

The body and paint looks hard to fault from photos, though there appears to be some curb rash on the front driver’s side wheel. Not unfixable but, again, signs of a life lived.

The interior looks to be well cared for, largely free of noticeable wear and tear on the seats and dash; though it does show slight peel on the top of the steering wheels and bears an aftermarket Kenwood head unit in place of the original radio.

The Senator also bears a dealer-fitted sunroof, and has covered 156,500kms over its life.

This VR Senator is based in Sydney and is listed for $19,990.
