1978 Holden HZ Premier – Today’s Tempter

Last of the traditional full-size Holdens: 253 V8, past restoration, no rust and mechanically perfect

Holden’s HZ represented the end of an era, and the last of the traditional full-size Holdens.

Visual changes were minute with little to distinguish the new ca from the preceding HX. But the car was transformed by the much-welcomed ‘Radial Tuned Suspension’.

The up-market Premier gained a Tri-matic auto as standard, along with tinted side glass, pinstriping and quad headlights – adding on to the bucket seats, padded centre console, carpet and push-button radio included in the SL model.

Aussie family cars have quickly found themselves hot property over the past few years, with less common upmarket-models and rare specifications quick to find favour with buyers.

This 1978 HZ Premier Station Wagon looks interesting, an automatic example fitted with a 253 V8.

It received a prior restoration in the past with new Super Mint paint (and white roof) applied atop a rust and damage free body.

Inside the cabin, sees retrimmed front seats with original rear interior. Air-conditioning blows cold and the car is complimented by power steering, rear venetians, roof rack, sun visor and genuine GTS wheels.

The car shows 244,000kms from new and is described as "mechanically perfect and ultra-reliable". The seller points out that the car runs cool, and doesn’t drink oil.

If you’re after a useable old school Aussie family cruiser, this HZ Premier wagon might well be worth looking at!

The HZ Prem’ is based in New South Wales and is listed for $29,500.
