A snapshot of a simpler time: Time-warp survivor HX Kingswood ute in great overall condition
We live in interesting times, but while we can’t turn back the clock – old cars often allow us to capture a little snapshot of a simpler bygone era.
We can’t think of a better rig than this HX Kingswood ute!
The HX landed in showrooms in 1976, along with a host of mechanical changes in reaction to new ADR emissions regulations.
Unfortunately this came at the cost of power output and fuel efficiency. Engine options ranged from the 202ci inline-six, as well as the 253 and 308 V8s; with your choice of three or four-speed manuals, three-speed Trimatic or Turbo 400 gearboxes.
This HX Kingsy is specified with the 202 and three-speed column-shift manual.
The seller describes it as a true time-warp and survivor, coming from outback South Australia nad having covered 176,000kms over its life.
They state that the ute has only covered 1500kms in the past 20 years and that they have given it a mechanical overhaul which sees the old girl driving well and completely leak and issue free.
The body shows some signs of a life lived, with some rust in the lower doors, one spot on the rear guard and small 5-cent pieces on the tail gate; but the paint is original.
The original interior conversely has been incredibly well preserved, with no cracks in the dash and only a small tear on the driver’s seat side. Radio, heater and interior lights are all functioning.
Overall, it’s an incredible surviving unrestored vehicle in driving condition and won’t cost a bomb.
The car comes with no rego or RWC but the seller claims it shouldn’t take much.
The ute is listed for $13,475 but is open to reasonable offers.
