As nice as you’ll find in a Cortina: big 4.1lt six, auto, great condition

The TE Cortina had all the right things on paper: a smart European-look sedan that landed right as the medium-car segment began to pick up steam in the late-70s, and available with a choice of familiar and reliable engines from the 2.0lt four-banger to the big 3.3 and 4.1lt sixes.

It should have been sales hit for Ford; seemingly the right car at the right time.

However, the Cortinas suffered tremendous quality control issues during manufacturing with many cars delivered with inherent faults from factory. The damage was done to their reputation, and many owners of problematic cars found favour with other marques.

Of you did chance a good one, or spend enough time in getting one sorted – the cars were actually quite capable. They weren’t great handlers, but the big six in a 1138kg package meant the Cortina could seriously hustle!

This 1977 TE Cortina comes to market as a great entry level classic.

It looks to be in outstanding condition (especially so for a Cortina) and is specified with the biggest available 4.1lt six-cylinder coupled to a three-speed T-Bar automatic.

The body presents in great condition with an uncommon factory Golde sunroof, all free of rust and what looks like new paint (though not stated in the listing).

The interior is also in good condition, though there are some non-original touches such as door speakers and steering wheel.

The little Cortina is based in New South Wales and is listed for $9,900.
