Reasonably-priced and seemingly honest XW Futura!

The XR-XY generation gave birth to the Aussie Falcon legend that lasts to this day.

It’s these early Falcons – usually in V8 or GT disguise – that frequently fetch the headlines and the big-bucks.

But what’s left for the average joe – not concerned with GT clones or nut-and-bolt restos?

70s Aussie family cars are hot property these days, but there are still examples out there that can be deemed somewhere in the comparative realm of ‘attainability’: like this 1970 XW Futura.

The XW boasted all new sheetmetal and brought back the Futura name which had been shelved since the XR of 1966, as a pleasantly-priced feature-filled mid-range model.

This XW Futura Sedan offers a great base for a rolling resto, or just a sweet surviving cruiser.

It looks to be very original and shows some signs of wear and a life-lived, but overall looks to be in solid condition throughout.

The seller states the car to be one of five of its kind, built in rare Opal Glow colour with tan vinyl trim, though it’s not stated whether the car still wears its original coat of paint. Though we suspect it may have been treated to some exterior restoration, with GS stripes added.

The interior trim looks to be in great condition free of noticeable wear and tear, though the listing points out a few cracks in the dash pad.

Elsewhere under the bonnet, sits a 3.6lt six (the listing states a base 3.1 but it looks to be a 3.6 in the photos, as per standard fitment on the Futura model) coupled to a column-shift three-speed auto in good and working mechanical condition.

Overall, it looks to be a solid unit to start with and may be a good opportunity to step into a very desired model without breaking the bank.

The XW Futura is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $33,000.
